Telus offers a wide variety of cellular phones to its customers including some great Samsung phones to suit various budgets.

Samsung U540

First we have the Samsung U540, a slim flip phone with a two inch screen. Through Telus the cellular phone has access to mobile music and mobile radio. It also includes Windows Live Messenger as an application and My Email.

The Samsung U540 is the ideal cellular phone for the student or young person who is on the go and needs something that will provide entertainment and reliability. Telus mobile radio gives access to XM Satellite radio which broadcasts commercial-free music, comedy and talk to the cellphone.

The phone also has GPS technology with the Telus Navigator service. To get the phone on a no contract basis (pre paid) the price is $99.99. A one year contract costs $49.99 and until February 6, 2009, a two year contract costs $0.00 (except for your subscription costs to the network, of course).

Samsung Slyde

The Samsung Slyde is also known as the Samsung M540 and in the US it’s called the Samsung Rant. This is a great cellular phone for consumers who need a messaging solution, with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a front dialing panel. My Email and Messenger 2.0 come preloaded on the phone so that the user can begin to start messaging straight away.

Like the U540, the phone has access to Telus Mobile Music which is a service where you can browse, preview and download music straight to the phone as you go. You can also do the same from your PC to your phone easily. The MP3 player on the phone also has external controls so you don’t need to worry about accessing the application on-screen.

The 2.0 megapixel camera allows for photo and video capture.

The Slyde is available through Telus at $229.99 (no contract), $179.99 for a year contract and $79.99 for a two year contract. Three year contracts are also available, for a limited time, at a price of $29.99.

Samsung Instinct

The Samsung Instinct is a finger-touch screen cellular phone that includes Samsung’s TouchWiz software (you can drag, drop, expand and move items on the screen easily). TouchWiz also incorporates the use of widgets on the home screen, which allows the user to customize the phone according to how they prefer.

The Instinct also has access to Telus Mobile Music, like the Slyde, where music can be previewed and downloaded to the cellular phone. Mobile radio, like the U540, is also available on this phone. Where it differs is that it also has the Telus Mobile TV service – which allows you to watch real time TV on your cellular phone.

GPS technology and messaging services are also available on the Instinct. Contracts for the Instinct through Telus are as follows:

No contract – $399.99
One year contract – $349.99
Two year contract – $229.99
Three year contract (for a limited time) – $129.99.

What is SPARK?

SPARK is Telus’ entertainment service that provides music, radio and TV to the cellular phone. SPARK also includes internet messenger services, Email, GPS and the ability to download ringtones, pictures, access the wireless web service and have two way text messaging. All three phones above are SPARK enabled, but only the Instinct provides the complete package.

You may have heard of the term ‘Tri Band’ (also spelt tri-band or triband) during your hunt for the ideal mobile phone that is going to suit you. When asking what it means, you either receive a vague answer or a complicated one – or one that makes sense but doesn’t really explain why the technology is so important.

Basically, tri band cell phones are phones that are able to support three frequency bands. Why that’s important for you, as a user, is that it means you can go to a different country and still be able to use the cell phone. Contrary to what we may think, each continent and even each country of the world uses only specific types of frequency bands. This is because it all depends who has rolled out the cellular technology in that area of the world. Some areas of the world still use old technology, while some are obviously more advanced. Some obviously use one type because it may have been the most available or cheapest option – or it may have been the most efficient option for that country’s needs.

Whatever the reason, cellular technology is not exactly the same all over the world and so cell phone technology needs to compensate for the different networks of the world. Cell phones sold in a particular country do, of course, favour the frequency bands used in that country but as mobile networks are becoming more and more common across the world, along with cell phones, many things are beginning to standardise. Tri band phones help to standardise things for us, so we don’t have to use a different phone when we’re in a different country.

Most manufacturers are manufacturing tri band phones these days, and are now also beginning to manufacture quad band phones – phones that operate on four frequencies rather than three – especially as the smart phone becomes more popular. Frequency bands are also becoming faster and more stable as we begin to make data calls. The ability to be mobile is not only convenient when it comes to calling and text messaging, these days, but also we need our phones to get our email and browse the internet while we’re on the move.

The Samsung i900 Omnia is a great example of a quad band phone that operates and allows for the latest in mobile technology and frequency bands. Loosely speaking, your two main frequency bands or frequency ranges are GSM and UMTS (2G and 3G networks, respectively) or CDMS (another cell technology standard in the US). Within these frequency standards there are also a number of frequency bands, which all have to do with speed and stability. Each country will use a different band within frequency standards depending on the networks in the country. For example, North American networks use 850MHz frequency bands while other parts of the world use 900MHz or 1900MHz. North America then also use 1900MHz while other parts of the world don’t.

A tri band phone such as the Samsung i900 will use two frequency bands within its home country and one or two that are used in other parts of the world. This way it manages to usually cover all types of frequencies used across the world. The Samsung i900 supports UMTS/HSDPA networks, which is why it’s a great phone to use for data calls – getting your email, browsing the web, and doing work from your phone.

For this reason it’s a highly recommended mobile phone with its smart phone cabilities – using Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional – which makes it easily able to sync your data between a Windows laptop and itself. Plus its micro-SD slot and touch screen interface makes it a wonderful tool for working, travelling, and both at the same time.

Buy cell phones online? Why would one buy one online if one can just go into a store and pick the phone one likes? You might not believe this but buying your phone online, actually has some pretty cool advantages.

Main Reasons To Buy A Cell Phone Online

Online purchases can be the best way to get yourself that new phone but since we know that you won’t just believe that statement without substantiation, hereunder we quote several reasons why we say so.

• The Choice
When you shop online you have a wider choice. A website doesn’t have space limitations, a physical store has. So obviously the choices are more. Also, you don’t have to be limited to any one online store but can jump from store to store with a few clicks and choose the right phone for you.

• Best Prices
Buying over the internet can get you some fantastic deals. Also, you may get a much better price for a phone. Sometimes cell phone companies also offer specials if the purchases are made online. So wouldn’t you like to make the most of it?

• Comparisons
This is our personal favorite. The best part about online shopping is that you get to make comparisons. You can visit several different websites in a matter of minutes to see which one offers you the best deal. Or, you can even use a website that lists a number of phones and use its comparison tool to find the phone and the deal that’s absolutely perfect for you!

• Reviews
When buying online, you can always read reviews of the phone, its features, what the experts are saying and even what other users think of it. These reviews can make or break your decision to buy a phone, so obviously we think it’s fantastic!

• Online Auctions
What would we do without eBay and other copycat sites. For hard-to-find models, replacement phones or just regular phones, online auctions can be awesome. You could get a fantastic deal on a brand new phone.

• Latest Models
You might be craving for that new Samsung PDA phone but it hasn’t hit the stores in your town yet. Who cares? Just get online and buy your phone online. It’s convenient and hassle free and lets you buy the latest models effortless.

• Unlocked Phones
This is one of the best things about the online market for cell phones. Certain phones might only be available on a particular cell phone provider’s plan. So what do you do if you want to use it on a different network? You need to unlock the phone. But since this isn’t an easy thing to do, most people just buy whatever is available but when you buy cell phone online, you can buy many “unlocked” phones which you can’t do at a store.

More and more people are shopping online these days. As long as you buy from a reputed seller or use a safe auction site like eBay, you should be safe. Hopefully these are enough reasons to convince you to buy cell phones online – it’s so much more convenient!

Samsung Nextel phones are specifically created by Samsung for the Spring Nextel Corporation, which is the third largest wireless telephony service provider in North America. The company provides a communication network based on CDMA technology, which is utilized both for wireless phone communication and internet communication. Samsung has launched a number of handsets targeting Spring Nextel customers.

A Brief Introduction To Samsung Nextel Phones

The most popular among the Samsung Nextel phones is undoubtedly Samsung Instinct (M800). When it was launched in June 2008, it was hyped as Samsung’s answer to Apple’s iPhone. Although it certainly could not match the euphoria generated by the iPhone launch, Samsung Instinct does have some cool and funky features to boast of.

It has a 2-GB storage capacity, which is upgradeable to 8 GB. Other features of the phone include GPS facility, 2-mega pixel camera, video camcorder, live TV streaming, MP3 player and touch screen. In a feature-by-feature analysis, it has been found that Samsung Instinct has almost all the features of iPhone, with iPhone faring better in capacity and efficiency in most cases. But this was as to be expected as the price of Samsung Instinct is less than half of that of iPhone.

Another popular model of Samsung Nextel phones is Samsung SPH A500. It is equipped with 3G connectivity, which ensures a faster and more reliable web access. It also has voice recognition software installed. So you can select the menus and perform other functions by simply talking to it. It has a simple folding type design and has an external LCD display, which is useful for identifying the caller without unfolding the phone.

Samsung VI660 is another model in this category, which is lightweight and compact. It is also a folding type of phone. This phone is loaded with voice recognition software. That means one only needs to talk to the phone for activating its functions.

Samsung SPH N400 is another type of Samsung Nextel phone. It has 3G connectivity and is ideal for people who want to remain online most of their time. A camera is not a part of the standard handset but there is an optional digital camera attachment for those who want to click while they travel.

Samsung SPH A 460 is also intended for the internet junkies. It has GPS connectivity facility and has software add-on’s for sending and receiving e-mails and downloading web content. It also has a sleek and contemporary structure.

Samsung SPH N240 has more of a basic type of design. It is an easy to use and sturdy looking phone with an external antenna. Its main features are a backlit LCD display and a battery that can standby for 192 hours. This is the Samsung Nextel phone that is intended for budget customers.

Samsung Nextel phones have something for everyone, the one who has a high budget and also the one who does not want to burn a hole in the pocket. Be a proud owner of a Samsung Nextel phone – get yours today.

Yes, definitely! There are rapid changes taking place in the wireless technology and newer and improved cell phones arriving everyday. Hence it is important to review cell phones comparisons. Comparisons and ratings help a consumer learn about the differences among various mobile phones, know their features and understand their capabilities.

It gets even simpler when the various features are tabulated on a chart. This is how most comparative charts let the consumer note the differences among the various models. Now, before you go ahead with cell phone comparisons, determine the cell phone carrier you wish to use. Most cell phones are compatible with certain service providers only, so you need to make sure that the carrier you intend to use supports the phone you are looking at.

Narrowing Down To Certain Features

A consumer often faces no problem narrowing down to certain features if he is clear about the features he needs in his phone. On the other hand, a consumer who doesn’t have a clear idea, would have the following problems -
• Might pick a cell phone that has several features that he does not require.
• May remain confused about the list of features.
• Might not be sure about the kind of camera to select or the kind of color screen to go for.

In order to avoid any confusion it would be best to through some cell phones comparisons to narrow down your preferences.

How To Select A Cell Phone Through A Comparative Chart?

It doesn’t matter whether you are buying your first phone or your tenth one. Going through some cell phone comparative lists can definitely help you place one manufacturer over another. Here is how you should go about selecting you phone using a comparative list:
• Mobile comparisons provide the buyer with an analysis of the phone’s ease of use.
• It lets the buyer know more about the various features offered by the manufacturers.
• The buyer can also learn through the comparison lists, about discounted prices and rebates offered.

So instead of running from pillar to post trying to find the right cellular phone, just log on to an online cell phone review site and read the ratings. Once you are open to new options and research well, you are sure to locate your dream cellular phone.

Top Five Cell Phones That Rocked The Market In 2008

• Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

Have you been wondering what tri band cell phones are? They are increasingly becoming a hot topic of conversation, especially among people who travel around the world. The reason? Most of the time a phone that is an indispensable part of your life in the USA quickly becomes useless once you enter another country. This is because the American cell phone system is not compatible with the GSM system which is used in the rest of the world. This can be a very frustrating thing for travelers as they will have to depend on other modes of communication when traveling.

Why Does This Happen?

The reason why this happens is two-fold. One involves the different encoding services and radio frequencies local service providers use. If your phone can’t pick up these signals, then naturally it won’t work. Apart from that, there is the commercial question of roaming. Many cell phone companies do not have cross-billing facilities on an international scale. This means they have no effective way of billing you if you use your phone in another country. This is why the consumer often has to rely on other phone services or rent a new phone when abroad. But this trend is quickly changing – a number of cell phone companies today like Samsung, Ericsson and Motorola offer multi-band phones.

So what exactly does this mean? These phones can pick up multiple frequencies at a domestic and international level. Among the tri band cell phones, it’s best to opt for ones that have 900/1800/1900MHz for maximum compatibility. It’s also important to make sure the phone picks up one American frequency as well as two international ones. That way, you’ll have a back-up band in case one doesn’t work properly.

What To Watch For
The good news is that the majority of new phones on the market today are tri band cell phones. However, America recently started using two frequencies for its GSM service. This means that a number of phones are being sold with just one international frequency and two American ones. It’s essential that you are clear about what kind of frequencies are offered before you buy the phone. In order to make things a little easier on the consumer, manufacturers like Samsung offer what is known as an ‘unlocked’ phone. This means that you can put in any SIM card and it will work, no matter who the service provider is. A number of manufacturers do in fact sell locked phones which will not function with incompatible SIM cards.

There is also already a market buzz about the advent of five and six band phones. The quad-phone, which supports four frequencies, is also gaining recognition.

Better known as the Samsung Blade, the Samsung A900 cell phone is sleek, slim and loaded with features like music, video, Bluetooth, high-speed data connectivity and camera.

Here is a detailed list of its features:

Design
The Samsung A900 cell phone comes in black with a bright external display. There are three buttons on the cell phone’s face of which one can be used to activate the music feature without actually flipping open the phone. The camera can be activated via a button on the phone’s side. The camera’s swivel feature is really convenient.

The cell phone’s black numeric keypad is flat and trendy and makes
dialing easy with one hand.

Call Quality
The Samsung A900 cell phone has good call quality that is loud and clear. The volume needs to be adjusted once in a while but this is easily done with the volume keys at the side of the cell phone.

The phone has the facility to play back MP3s clearly through its stereo speakers. The media player can be left on, enabling you listen to it as you go about your routine. There is a voice command facility that is convenient once the phone is trained to recognize and respond to the user’s voice commands.

Camera and Video
The Samsung A900 cell phone comes with a 1.3 mega pixel camera located on a hinge at the top of the phone. The flash is on the face of the phone. The lens can be swiveled and the external screen can be used as a viewfinder in case you want to take self-portraits. The camera is very easy to use and features great picture and video quality. The phone has a fixed internal memory of 50 MB that cannot be upgraded. However, there is PictBridge support, so you can directly send pictures from the camera to a printer that also supports PictBridge, making it easy to print 4 x 6 photos. The phone comes with a USB cable that you can use to connect the phone to the printer. The phone also has Bluetooth capability – so if the printer is Bluetooth enabled, then you don’t need to use the cable.

Music
With good MP3 playback quality, the Samsung A900 cell phone supports MP3 and AAC files. However, you will need to download the music from Sprint’s store, which can work out to be a bit pricey. Also bear in mind that storage is limited.
